What To Expect

1

Day 1: Manali – Jobri – Chhika

The adventure begins in Manali, one of the most popular trekking hubs in India. After a scenic drive through the Allain Duhangan hydro project road, we reach Jobri—the starting point of the Hamta Pass trek (Trek Distance: ~2.5 km). From here, we trek through forests of pine, maple, and birch toward our first campsite, Chhika, nestled beside the Rani River. It’s a relatively easy day, perfect for acclimatization. The open valley, gushing streams, and alpine views set the tone for what lies ahead.

2

Day 2: Chhika – Balu Ka Gera

We start the day early and continue our ascent toward Balu Ka Gera (Trek Distance: ~8.5 km), which means ‘bed of sand’. On the way, we cross Juara Nala, a thrilling river crossing point that adds to the adventure. The trail slowly opens into high-altitude meadows surrounded by towering cliffs and peaks. Balu Ka Gera sits at the base of the pass, offering mesmerizing views of Indrasan Peak. It’s a peaceful campsite under starry skies, ideal for preparing for the summit day.

3

Day 3: Balu Ka Gera – Hamta Pass – Shea Goru

This is the most challenging and rewarding day of the Hamta Pass trek. After breakfast, we begin our ascent to Hamta Pass, located at an altitude of approximately 14,000 feet. The climb is steep and depending on the season, you may encounter snow, especially if you’re trekking Hamta Pass in June or early July. From the top, enjoy the surreal view of two contrasting valleys—lush Kullu on one side and stark Lahaul-Spiti on the other. After spending some time at the pass, we descend carefully toward Shea Goru, our next campsite, known for its cold winds and dramatic landscape.

4

Day 4: Shea Goru – Chhatru – Chandratal Visit

We trek downhill alongside a river, navigating through glacial moraines and rock patches toward Chhatru (Trek Distance: ~7 km). After reaching Chhatru, we board our vehicle and head toward Chandratal Lake—the star attraction of this trek. Located at 14,100 feet, this high-altitude, crescent-shaped lake is surrounded by towering peaks and is absolutely magical. After spending some peaceful time there, taking photos and enjoying the serenity, we return to Chhatru for the night.

5

Day 5: Chhatru – Manali

After breakfast, we pack up and drive back to Manali, marking the end of our Hamta Pass with Chandratal trek. On the way, you can enjoy more views of Lahaul Valley, and if the weather allows, pass through the iconic Atal Tunnel or Rohtang Pass. Back in Manali, we bid goodbye with memories that last a lifetime.
